PRODUCT PRESENTATION AND PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS

The discovery of inox steel belongs to the Hanry Brealy, from Sheffield. Making some experiments with steel for gun barrels in 1913, he found out that ne of the alloys he was using, with a 13-14% amount of chromium and a quite high carbon content (0,25%) did not corrode when exposed to oxygen.

The term stainless (inox) steel defines a steel alloy with a quantity of chromium between 11% and 30%. Other elements that enhance its resistance to corrosion are nichel, copper, titanium, niobium: anyway the total amount of those elements should not exceed the 50%.

There are different kinds of inox steel on the market, called AISI (USA brand), that differ for the percentage of its elements. The most common are:

AISI 304: Cr (18%) Ni (10%) C (0,05%)

AISI 316: Cr (16%) Ni (11,3/13%) Mo (2/3%)
